Randomizations do not alter the EV points, IV points, contest conditions, current HP percentage, XP percentage, shiny, and nickname of pokemon. At the start of each battle, every Pokemon is divided into a random species, with each having equal weight. A Pokemon can use up to four different moves, each of which has different effects, numbers of uses, and types, such as Grass and Psychic. Players can choose between four options: Fight, Bag, Switch, and Run. A Trainer sends out the first Pokemon in his or her party, and the Pokemon alternately attack, with the Pokemon with the highest speed striking first. Statistics shown include the Pokemon’s levels, each trainer’s Pokemon count (one to six), the Pokemon’s health, and whether the Pokemon is poisoned, paralyzed, or burned. Player avatars and their Pokemon are displayed on the left side of the screen whereas opponents appear on the right side. Pokemon can also be battled between two Trainers. Wild Pokemon can be encountered in many ways, such as by walking into the grass, surfing on a Pokemon, walking through caves, and more. 
Overworld characters can converse with each other and move in four directions. Those who enjoyed the free ROM of this video game might also enjoy the rest of the Pokemon series.
